The Hamstreet Village Design Guide, was and is driven by a group of parishioners for and on behalf of the whole parish. The aim was to capture the character of our village, see what various development stages have already changed and come to a consensus for the future development.

The Village Design Statement

Aims and Objectives

The objective of the Design Team is to produce a comprehensive, high quality Village Design Statement (VDS) that reflects the consensus of opinion of local residents, and that will be adopted as Supplementary Planning Guidance by Ashford Borough Council.

The aim is to influence the planning process so that any further development and change within the village and the surrounding countryside will be managed in a way that protects and enhances the qualities that give Hamstreet its special character, by taking into account local knowledge, views and ideas. This document identifies those qualities that are valued by residents so that planners, developers, architects, builders and local home owners contemplating alterations, can make informed decisions on their designs.

It is important to understand that this is driven by the villagers, supported by the local council, Ashford Borough Council and the KRCC.

The various subgroups working on this project have involved as many locals as possible and are grateful for any past and ongoing support.
