Hamstreet belongs to or is locally governed by the Orlestone Parish Council.

It is said that the people of Orlestone moved down to Hamstreet when the access to neighboring villages and Ashford was improved and the other reason is the availability
of water lower down in Hamstreet.

Organisation of the Council

The Council meets formally in the Victory Hall Hamstreet every month, on the last Monday in the month with the exception of August and December, at 7:45 p.m.

Members of the public are welcome and encouraged to attend.

In addition to listening to the proceedings, they are able to participate in the meeting by asking questions at 9:00 p.m. onwards.
The Council is comprised of 9 councilors and a Parish Clerk. Whenever possible, our representative on the Ashford Borough Council, Cllr Peter Davidson, also attends our meetings. From time to time other guests are invited to speak on topics of current interest to the Council and the community.
Your Parish Councilors have divided the tasks of the council between them so that there will always be continuity on those tasks and the respective councilors can build up a level of expertise in those subjects. This also enables your councilors to build up regular communication with relevant service providers to our community.
